Samajwadi Party stages walkout on pension scheme

Parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna, however, said that no budgetary provision had been made.

Lucknow: The SP on Thursday, stag-ed a walkout from the state Assembly over the Yogi government’s failure to give an assurance regarding revival of the Samajwadi pension scheme. SP MLA Narendra Varma raised the issue during question hour and said that the government was denying pension to poor women by stalling the scheme.

UP minister for social welfare Ramapati Shastri said that the scheme had not been terminated and verification of beneficiaries was underway.

“We have received verification reports from 62 districts and 4.15 lakh beneficiaries were not found eligible for the scheme. Once the entire verification process is completed, we will take a decision on whether the scheme is to be continued or not,” he said.
