The Congress party is set to lose Arunachal Pradesh with more than 20 legislators and at least four ministers deciding to rise in revolt against the leadership of chief minister Nabam Tuki.

Though dissent had been brewing for the past six months, it grew more acute with the resignation of state tourism minister Pema Khandu.

Mr Khandu, who resigned through a letter to the CM, wrote, “The government under your leadership has miserably failed to live up to the expectations of the general public of Arunachal Pradesh. There is no democracy within the party MLAs nor political stability, due to which governance was suffering and at its lowest.”

The letter, circulated to the media, added, “The adamant attitude of the present leadership and its inability to bring about any change in the deteriorating political scenario has pained me deeply. And today, my conscience and my sense of responsibility to the public do not permit me to associate myself any longer with this kind of leadership and to be a party in causing any more harm to our state.”

Referring to how four state Cabinet ministers were sacked and two legislators forced to turn to the court, Mr Khandu said the present leadership has brought all developmental activity to a standstill.
