The war of words between Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal reached a new height on Monday.
The seeds of the social media spat were sown on Sunday night when Amarinder Singh, through his tweet, warned Mr Kejriwal not to set his eyes on Punjab.
The tweet was met with a prompt response from Mr Kejriwal, accusing the former Punjab chief minister of “striking a deal with the Badals as corruption cases against him are closed”.
Thereafter, Mr Singh accused Mr Kejriwal of being in a “habit of making unsubstantiated allegations and fleeing afterwards”.
Mr Kejriwal hit back saying that people are saying that Amarinder Singh is using Majithia’s drug money to finance his campaign.
Buoyant from the recent surveys, which have shown the Congress slightly ahead in Punjab, the Punjab Congress chief challenged Mr Kejriwal for an open debate at a time and place of his choosing.
Mr Kejriwal responded by saying that Mr Singh can choose from any one of the four top leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. If Kejriwal has to have an open debate, he “will do it either with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi or vice-president Rahul Gandhi”. However, Mr Singh said “Kejriwal is chickening out”.
Twitter armies of both the leaders remained busy hurling allegations against each other throughout the day. Though, interestingly, even BJP Twitter army also chided the Delhi CM.
