Bangladesh cops quiz JMB terrorists in NIA net
A police team from Bangladesh has questioned members of a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terror module who were arrested by National Investigation Agency in connection with the 2014 Burdwan blast case, to ascertain if any member of the group was involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the Sheikh Hasina government in Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh team arrived on October and questioned Moulana Yusuf, alleged to be the second-in-command of JMB’s West Bengal unit and one of the main accused in the Burdwan blast case. The blast took place at Khagragarh in Burdwan district of West Bengal October 2, 2014.
Others who were quizzed by the police are Jahidul Sheikh alias Zafar alias Jabirul, Mohammad Rafique, Shahidul alias Shamim and Abdul Kalam alias Kalim.
There has been enhanced co-operation among Indian and Bangladesh security agencies on terror-related issues in recent times. The five JMB operatives were arrested from Assam by Special Task Force of Kolkata in September for trying to carry out blasts in the country and striking a deal with Bodo militants. The NIA later took custody of the five accused persons.
