Bengal Congress MLA compares cops to dogs
Ashis Marjit, the Congress MLA from Khagram in Murshidabad, has triggered a controversy by comparing the police with “dogs” and has warned the police to not to act as a pet of the ruling Trinamul Congress. “If they behave like dogs of the Trinamul, the people will not tolerate them any longer,” he said at a protest rally at Kandi on Saturday. He repeated his statement at another rally on Sunday. Alleging police inaction, Mr Marjit claimed that while the cops book Congress workers in false cases on many occasions, they remain mute spectators when our workers come under attack by the Trinamul.
According to the political observers, he launched the verbal attack on the police apparently to appease state Congress president and party MP Adhir Chowdhury. Mr Choudhury added that the Congress was giving a month’s time to them to act independently. “If the cops continue to act like poshyoputra (pet) of the ruling party, the Congress will send its 50,000 workers to gherao and arrest them,” he said.
