Congratulating the people of Bihar and the grand alliance of Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav, which registered a massive victory over the BJP-led alliance, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Sunday said people of Bihar have voted for “secularism and rejected communal polarisation”.

“We congratulate the people of Bihar and also the grand alliance for their landmark victory. Achche din have finally begun for the people. The bitterness the BJP tried to inject was defeated. First Delhi, then Kerala and now Bihar, People are making their own achche din. The BJP had intended to polarise the population but the result was opposite of what they had desired,” the CPI(M) general secretary said.

He added that the Bihar Assembly election results were the best gift on Dussehra, Diwali and Id. Mr Yechury was in the city to visit the family members of former state Assembly Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim who died on November 2.

Speaking about the growing intolerance in the country, Mr Yechury said, “Religion, God are people’s own choice and the BJP and the RSS are going against it. Bihar result itself shows that there is a lot of difference between campaign on cyber space and reality. The BJP is also trying to disturb the communal unity in Bengal with cow politics.”

The CPI(M) state secretary also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his inability to rise above communal politics and usher in development.
