‘BJP youth leader’ held in Jaipur
The police has arrested Sunil Mudgal, who claimed to be a former secretary of the Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP along with an accomplice, Sumit Mehra, following complaints by two local builders that they demanded money and threatened to kill them if the money was not paid. After verifying the complaints in the preliminary investigation, the police conducted a raid, during which it also seized illegal arms from their possession.
The police is also hunting for Raj Tepan, a young Congress leader who contested ward councilor’s election in the Jaipur Municipal Corporation on a Congress ticket. Besides, he was also an NSUI candidate for general secretary’s post in the Rajasthan University Students’ Union elections in 2012. According to sources, Mudgal boasted his political connection following his arrest which was substantiated by frequent calls from leaders of political parties to police officials immediately after his arrest. Mudgal reportedly told the police that he was the state secretary of BJYM. He was also said to have been associated with Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
However, BJP leaderRamcharan Bohra has denied any links with Mudgal, and former vice-president of BJYM and current member of its national council, Lakshmi Kant Bhardwaj, too has denied that Mudgal was ever part of the organisation.
As per the complaints filed by the builder Harish Kumar, on April 12 notorious criminal Shravan Soni, currently lodged in Jaipur central jail, called up and demanded Rs 1 crore failing which he threatened to kill their families. On the same day, Raj Tepan telephoned builder Jwala Prasad Tiwari to make the same demand. Mudgal is the son of a police constable in a Jaipur police station.
