CBI to register 10 fresh cases in Vyapam scam

The CBI, probing the multi-crore Vyapam scam, is now preparing to register at least 10 fresh cases, involving high-profile persons, in the recruitment scam.

The CBI, probing the multi-crore Vyapam scam, is now preparing to register at least 10 fresh cases, involving high-profile persons, in the recruitment scam. The agency has already registered more than 100 FIRs in the Vyapam scam.

Sources said, “The CBI will soon register fresh cases as part of its investigations into the Vyapam scam. The agency may book some more officials of the MP Professional Examinat-ion Board (MPPEB) in its fresh FIRs.”

The agency recently conducted searches at nearly 40 places in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, including the premises of alleged mastermind Jagdish Sagar and Dhanraj Yadav, a former OSD to Madhya Pradesh governor Ram Naresh Yadav.

Sources further said, “CBI investigations have revealed that the Vyapam scam involved collusion among candidates, government officials and middlemen. Undeserving candidates bribed the MPPEB officials through middlemen to be seated strategically next to a brilliant dummy candidate, who was also paid money. The dummy candidate let them copy from his sheet or exchanged the sheet at the end of the exam.” Role of two senior officials of the state education department is also being probed by the agency for allegedly favouring certain candidates appearing in a 2013 pre medical examination, sources said.

The Supreme Court on July 9 had transferred the probe of all cases related to Vyapam scam to the CBI. Vyapam is a government body responsible for conducting several entrance tests in Madhya Pradesh. It recruits for government jobs and admissions to educational institutes. Vyapam scam is allegedly a well orchestrated rigging of entrance exams to help undeserving candidates get high ranks in these entrance tests.
