CBI seeks information on Sheena’s offshore accounts
The CBI, which is investigating the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case, is likely to send judicial requests to Singapore and Hong Kong to get details about the two bank accounts of Sheena.
The offshore bank accounts of Sheena had further contributed in making her relationship more acrimonious with her mother Indrani, sources said.
Sheena, 25, was murdered on April 24, 2012 and her body was burnt and disposed off in a forest in Raigad district of Maharashtra the next day.
“There are allegations that funds allegedly siphoned off from the media house founded by Peter and Indrani Mukerjea were parked in an overseas account of Sheena Bora, which resulted in a dispute between Indrani and her daughter,” sources said.
The agency sleuths have collected some evidence in this regard, sources said, adding that the CBI may send judicial requests to Singapore and Hong Kong to get more clues in this connection.
Income Tax returns filed by Peter and Indrani are also under the scanner to ascertain their various alleged investments in India and abroad, sources said.
The CBI is also scrutinising documents pertaining to a Kolkata-based firm, allegedly linked to Indrani and Peter, they added.
Besides, two others private firms based in Kolkata are also under the scanner of the CBI in this regard, sources said.
Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier marriage, was allegedly killed by her mother, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai in April 2012.
However, sources clarified that at this stage it is difficult to nail any one and ascertain the possible motive behind Sheena’s murder as the agency is working on a number of different angles which might have triggered the crime.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate is preparing to initiate a separate inquiry against Peter to investigate whether former media baron allegedly siphoned off money abroad.
The ED may soon file a case on the basis of FIR registered by the CBI in this case. If required, the ED may also take assistance from the Maharashtra and West Bengal police.
