Centre to unveil new channel for Northeast
The Narendra Modi government is expected to present a new year’s gift to the Northeast by unveiling a new channel, Arun Prabha, for the region. DD Arun Prabha will cater to the region and will have its headquarters in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The Modi government, being quite bullish on the Northeast, is trying to promote the new channel as a likely bridge between the mainland and the region.
Speaking to this newspaper, director general Door-darshan Supriya Sahu stated that the public broadcaster is preparing to laun-ch the channel by the end of this year. “Though the exact dates for the launch are yet to be fixed we are working towards putting all things in place for the new channel by the end of this year,” Ms Sahu added.
“There has been a feeling that the aspirations and the needs of the vast and culturally diverse region have not been met by the existing DD Northeast channel, hence the need for an additional channel,” said the DG Doordarshan.
