‘Congress to blame for illegal immigrants’

BJP president Amit Shah on Friday said that the Congress has allowed illegal immigrants from Bangladesh to enter Assam for vote-bank politics.

BJP president Amit Shah on Friday said that the Congress has allowed illegal immigrants from Bangladesh to enter Assam for vote-bank politics.

Pointing out that illegal immigrants were a threat to national security, Mr Shah, who was addressing a workers’ rally at Dibrugarh in Upper Assam, said, “The Congress has left the international border unattended. Illegal immigrants from Bangladesh enter India, they have not only taken away the jobs of locals, but are also emerging as a security threat to the nation.”

The BJP president also justified the land swap deal with Bangladesh while pointing out that it would enable the country to secure the border and build fencing along the international border.

He said that Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi is talking to All-India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for an alliance. “How can a party which is talking to AIUDF check illegal immigrants from Bangladesh ” said Mr Shah.

He dared the chief minister to discuss the alliance with the AIUDF in the open rather than forging an understanding discreetly.

Mr Shah promised a joint effort of the Centre and the state for tackling the flood problem in Assam. He promised that the railway tracks of Assam and Northeast India would be doubled.

“Assam requires a patriotic government and one which can stop infiltration,” said Mr Shah, who suspended his Guwahati visit. The ruling Congress had planned to take out a protest march in Guwahati during his visit. Mr Shah asked party workers to fan out and prepare for polls due in April 2016.
