Congress changes strategy, to target SP

The Congress has recalibrated its strategy for the Deoria Yatra of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. A quick assessment during the two-day break by strategist Prashant Kishor and team revealed that the attack should also be on the Akhilesh Yadav-led state government.

In the first phase of Mr Gandhi’s Yatra, the target was primarily the Prime Minister. The feedback suggests that it would be even more beneficial if the attack was closer home. Hence the attack has shifted towards the Samajwadi Party government. Couple of slogans apart from the “Cycle Puncture” theme are in the pipeline and they include: “Kisan hai pareshan, kab tak jhele jhoothi shaan, Saifai mein hote naach gaan, nahi chahiye aisee sarkar.” The other being: “Ab sapa karo aaram, kisano ka jeena na karo haram”.

The Congress now feels that issues related to electricity bills should also be highlighted. The Samajwadi Party led government should be taken to task on the issue. The Congress cadres at the booth level have also been given instructions to this effect.

In the coming phases of the campaign the attack will intensify further on ground and online.

Congress spokesperson and former Union minister R.P.N. Singh says, “We are attacking everybody, including the present Uttar Pradesh state government. The BJP and BSP are also responsible for the condition of Uttar Pradesh.”

The Congress has instructed its cadres in the districts where the Yatra has concluded to keep the connect alive.

All farmers who have filled the form regarding outstanding loans are required to give a missed call to the special cell created by the team of Prashant Kishore. Once that call has been registered the local leaders have been instructed to keep in touch with these people. The yatra of Mr Gandhi has almost another month to go.
