UP Congress plans final event as Kisan Yatra nears end
The Congress party’s Kisan Yatra, which started from Deoria and will culminate in Delhi, is nearing its end now.
After starting on September 6, the yatra covered eastern and central Uttar Pradesh and currently is in western UP. Sources say during the culmination of the yatra, the party will hold a mega event.
Senior Congress leaders, led by general secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad, UP chief Raj Babbar, Haryana chief Ashok Tanwar and party’s senior state leaders met at the Congress headquarters in Delhi on Friday, and discussed ideas on the organising a mega event to mark the ending of the rally. Sources say Ghaziabad and Noida are short listed for the event.
Focusing on farmers, the Congress, during its rally, has distributed forms to farmers, which comprise columns in which they are asked to write down the amount of loan they availed and the amount spent on electricity. “A counterfoil is given to farmers while the original form is returned to the Congress worker. All those who have filled the form are being asked to give a missed call to the Congress cell to confirm their forms have been received,” said a party worker. The party has assured that if it comes to power, it will waive farm loans and half the electricity bills.
During the khat sabhas also, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has strongly emphasised on the issue. To raise the pitch even higher with farmers in the state, the Congress workers want to hold a mega event. The Congress is at pains to paint the BJP -led Central government as anti-farmer.
