Hyderabad: Unable to bear the funeral expenses of his 16-year-old daughter who committed suicide, a father dumped her body in a drain behind his house in Mailardevpally in the first week of May. The incident came into light after residents found the skull of the girl and the decomposed body floating in the drain.

The girl was identified as S Bhavani. S Pentaiah, a resident of Vombay colony is working as a daily labourer in a chemical factory in Katedan. His wife left him five years ago and she would visit them once in a year. He was staying with his son Sitaram and daughter Bhavani.

Around two years ago, his son Sitaram hanged himself and Pentaiah had borrowed around Rs 50000 for his funeral. Around three years ago, when he performed the puberty ceremony of his daughter, he had to borrow Rs 50000, which he could not clear till now. In addition to this, he was going through a financial crisis.

Meanwhile, Bhavani who was at home was involved in petty thefts in the neighborhood. Two days before she hanged herself, she committed a mobile theft in their area, which was traced and the mobile was recovered by the owner.

After this incident on May 6, she hanged herself at home. Her father who returned from work found her hanging and brought her down, but she was already dead.

After being reminded of his son's funeral and debts, he waited till midnight and dumped her body in the drain behind his house.

On May 31, kids in the locality found a white object and started playing with it. Few elders noticed it as a human skull and alerted police.

Police later found the body in the drain. A suspicious death case was registered.

On inquiry, residents told police that Pentaiah's daughter was not seen in the area for more than three weeks. On suspicion, police picked up Pentaiah for inquiry, during which he admitted that his daughter hanged herself on May 6, but unable to bear the funeral expenses, he dumped her body in the drain.

"Even if the girl committed suicide, the police should be informed. For concealing the information, he will be prosecuted. We are waiting for the autopsy report to know the exact cause of death." Mailardevpally Sub Inspector T Nagachary said.
