Assam's PR director arrested in cash scam

The campaign was aimed at highlighting achievements of the Congress tenure through various media platforms ahead of the 2016 assembly polls.

Guwahati: The chief minister’s vigilance cell on Tuesday arrested the director of information and public relations department of Assam in a multi-crore rupees advertisement scam.

Besides the director Ranjit Gogoi, four others from three advertising and media firms of Brahmaputra Television Network, Delta Publicity and Pradip Advertising have been named as accused in the FIR of over Rs 30 crore scam.

The chief minister’s vigilance cell, which had called Mr Gogoi for interrogation on Tuesday, arrested him and produced before the court. He remanded into police custody for three days.

According to preliminary investigation, Mr Gogoi allegedly misused his position while granting projects to these firms as part of a ‘Vision Assam, Mission Assam’ publicity campaign for the previous Congress government in the state.
