Woman claiming to be MLA's wife attempts suicide
Bhubaneswar: woman claiming to be the wife of a sitting MLA of Odisha on Friday attempted to commit suicide by consuming phenyl (household disinfectant) in front of the state Assembly. The woman, who claimed to be the wife of BJD MLA from Talcher, Braja Kishore Pradhan, was rescued by cops on duty in front of the Assembly. The condition of the woman who was rushed to Capital Hospital by cops was stated to be stable. “The Mahila police station hasn’t acted even after
10-12 days of my lodging complaint. I want justice. If I have wronged I should be punished and if the MLA has wronged, he should be punished. I know that
attempting suicide is an offense but one won’t take such an extreme step unless one is hurt to that extent,” said the woman on asking why she attempted to commit suicide. The woman, 30, had earlier also attempted to commit suicide by slashing her left wrist with a blade on Thursday last week after she was stopped by cops from entering the residence of Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
