Two politicians murdered in four days in Rajasthan

Brazen violence an embarrassment to Vasundhara Raje govt.

Jaipur: Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s claim of an improved law and order situation flew in her face when two politicians including one from her own party were murdered in four days. Overall, three political leaders have been killed in a month and two of them are from the BJP.

In the latest incident on Monday, a local leader, Harveer Saharan, was shot dead in broad daylight outside SDM’s office in Rawatsar in Hanumangarh district. He was a ward councillor and his wife is the chairperson of the Rawatsar municipality.

Unidentified assailants who were in a car fired six shots at him when he got out of his car at 11.30 am. The first bullet hit his stomach while the second missed him. The assailants then pumped four bullets in his head and fled the spot unhindered. Saharan was taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.

Saharan himself was accused in two cases, the murder of a political rival and a kidnapping case. Both the cases were more than a decade old and he was arrested in June this year. Saharan came out of jail last month after being granted bail by the court.

On Thursday, during the felicitation ceremony of 6,000 recently promoted head constables, the chief minister had congratulated them for improving law and order situation in the state. She also said that policemen had instilled fear among criminals and reduced the crime rate.

The very next day, Chunnilal Joshi, the BJP vice-president of Mandalgarh rural, was found in his car. According to the police, he had gone to meet a tantrik with '2 lakh.

Last month, BJP leader and property dealer Durgesh Malviya was shot dead at a crowded place near Kota railway station.

Earlier this month, a man and his two sons were murdered in broad daylight in Banswara forcing the police to impose prohibitory orders. A senior police officer’s mother-in-law was also killed by a gang of robbers in capital Jaipur followed by the murder of a banker.
