New Delhi: The Congress, on Thursday, hit out against the Uttar Pradesh government for its inability to control crime and violence in the state. UP has been simmering after the clashes in Saharanpur and other crime-related incidents. The latest bei-ng the gangrape in Jewar in the early hours of Thursday. Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP from UP Kapil Sibal said that it is a clash of civilisations which is taking place in the state.
He added that first it was Muslims vs the majority community in Saharanpur and since the administration did not take proper action, it has now become dalits vs the majority community in the state. Taking a dig at the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Mr Sibal said, “The UP CM on May 21 had said that there is no law and order problem in the state. Well, I don’t know which state he is talking about as the situation in UP is for all to see. People are not safe even travelling on highways.”
Mr Sibal also went on to add that since Yuva Vahini had no checks and was free to do whatever it wants, the lawlessness has spread in the state. Quoting crime statistics, he added that all major crimes have seen a spike since the coming of the new government in UP.
“When the new government came to power in the state, people thought that they will control law and order. But now we see that robberies, dacoity, ra-pe have become the order of the day. Is this the ‘Sabka saath sabka vikas’ the BJP talks about.”
The Congress is planning to corner the Yogi Adityanath government on the law and order issues. In the days to come, there will be high profile visits of the Congress leaders to Uttar Pradesh for highlighting the law and order issue.
