Gau rakshaks swamp Congress head quarters
Demand ban on cow slaughter.
It was a different scene at the Congress headquarters at Akbar Road with several members belonging to the Sarvodaya Gau Raksha Dal descending down at the premises. They were dressed in saffron and were sporting tilaks. They had come with a petition for the leaders of the Congress demanding complete ban on cow and bull slaughter. They had other matters also relating to Hinduism.
The first person to seek an appointment with was Congress MP and senior leader Karan Singh. As he was not present a memorandum has been given to him and they have also sought time to meet him. The other person they sought time with was Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh. Incidentally, Digvijaya Singh was out of town, but they have been given an appointment for Wednesday. In fact when Digvijaya Singh was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh he had put a complete ban on cow slaughter. The stated position of Digvijaya Singh has been that he supports a ban on cow slaughter in the country.
The Gau Rakshaks have also demanded that cow should be declared as the national animal. This will also ensure that cow slaughter comes to an end. The Sarvodaya Gau Rakshak Dal, which is headquartered in Hyderabad, has also been sitting on a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. They have even sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They want instant results. In the memorandum they have also added that even Muslim rulers in the country had imposed a ban on cow slaughter. They want that Digvijaya Singh and Karan Singh should speak to Congress vice president Mr Rahul Gandhi, after which the matter should be raised by Congress in the Parliament. This would force the government to ensure that favourable action is taken. Congress, after the Lok Sabha debacle of 2014, is also keen to shed off its anti-Hindu image.
