India will likely share several films related to the Bangladesh independence struggle, which are with the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), with the neighbouring nation.
Sources say that India will help Bangladesh in reconstructing the struggle for its independence through films. The NFAI is preparing a list of such films.
India helped Bangladesh in its liberation war against Pakistani in 1971.
The exchange of Bangladeshi liberation war footage comes at the backdrop of sharing of other film productions between the two countries.
In 2015, Bangladesh helped India in securing a DVD copy of the first-ever talkie Devdas, made by PC Barua in 1935. The film was handed over to the NFAI by a visiting delegation from the Bangladesh Film Archive. No copy or print of the film was available in India. The issue of the exchange of rare footage will also be discussed during the visit of Bangladesh information and broadcasting minister Hasanul Haq Inu to India.
Over the past years, the coorperation in the film sector is increasing between the two nations. In 2015, India gave clearance for the shooting of three Bangladeshi films in India.
Till July, the country has given nod to eight Bangladeshi productions.
