The ruling JD(U) has landed in a fresh controversy after a legislator openly threatened the BJP with dire consequences if they tried to “mess with him or his workers”.

The threat was issued by JD(U) MLA Gopal Mandal during a political event.

During his speech he had said that his workers could “chop off the hands and tongues” of those who harassed them.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party has been levelling false allegations against my workers and me. If they don’t stop, then I can’t say what will happen to them. My workers may even take drastic steps and chop their tongues and hands and I won’t be able to stop them,” he said.

The JD(U) legislator, known for his controversial comments, added that he was not scared of going to jail. Gopal Mandal, also known as Neeraj Mandal, is from Gopalpur Assembly constituency in Bhagalpur district.

“One of my legs remains in jail and the other one outside. I have remained in jail for most of the time,” Gopal Mandal said.

Though members of the ruling party, including senior party leaders, refused to comment, the Opposition BJP attacked the grand secular alliance government. Reacting, BJP leader and former Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav said, “This shows where Bihar is heading, all we can say is Janata past, Nitish Kumar ke MLA mast (While the people are defeated, Nitish Kumar’s MLAs are having fun).”
