Kanhaiya Kumar in Patna, meets Lalu and Nitish
JNUSU president Kanhayiya Kumar was on Saturday given a warm welcome in Patna, which was once an epicentre of total revolution led by Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan. Kanahiya Kumar who termed his visit as a “homecoming” said, “We will continue to oppose those who are trying to impose their ideology among the masses”.
The JNUSU president also attacked the Narendra Modi government and the BJP for growing intolerance in the country. “Intolerance has increased in the past two years under the current BJP regime,” he said.
Kanhaiya Kumar later met Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Yadav at their residence in Patna. RJD insiders said Mr Yadav has assured all support to the student leader in his battle “against the BJP and RSS”.
Kanahiya Kumar, while speaking to the reporters in Patna also discussed the prohibition issue. Though he welcomed the ban imposed in Bihar by the Nitish Kumar government he said, “I am in favour of the ban but at the same time I would also like to speak about the freedom of expression.”
This is his first visit to Bihar after he was released from Tihar Jail on bail. Mr Kumar was arrested on sedition charges after he gave his speech in JNU campus last month. His high-profile welcome has triggered reaction from the Opposition in Bihar.
