Many parts of Kashmir Valley were on Wednesday were pushed into a new wave of violent protests followed the killing of two more civilians, one of them a casual security guard at an ATM kiosk at Srinagar.

At least, 35 people were injured in clashes with security forces in southern Kulgam district, reports received here said.

Meanwhile, the police conducted raids in various parts of Srinagar and other towns during past two nights and rounded up 350-400 youth on charges of stone-pelting.

More than 120 persons have been detained under “prohibitory provisions of law”.

The 20-year-old Riyaz Ahmed Shah’s autopsy report says that as many as 360 pellets had been embedded in his body resulting into his instant death. His family alleged that he was returning home from duty at an ATM kiosk in Srinagar’s Kani Kadal area on a scootie (motorbike) when he was stopped at a makeshift CRPF check-point in City’s Syed Mansoor Sahib locality, beaten up and then shot from a close range late Tuesday night.

The incident evoked anger and outrage in Srinagar and hundreds of residents defied curfew to join his funeral on Wednesday afternoon.

The police confirmed Shah’s death and said they are investigating who shot him and in what circumstances. The PDP-BJP government is, so far, silent on the incident but former chief minister Omar Abdullah and his National Conference party termed it as “yet another shocking proof of brutality and barbarism”. Mr Abdullah also accused the Centre of being oblivious to the ongoing unrest in the Valley.

Earlier on Tuesday, a protester Farooq Ahmed Kuchay was killed and two others were wounded, when the personal security guard of a senior government official opened fire on a group of protesters, who mobbed his car.
