A song by poet-turned-AAP leader Kumar Vishwas has gone viral in Punjab. The song, titled “Ek Nasha” already had more than 42,000 hits on YouTube since its launch a couple of days ago. The song has stirred political circles in Punjab as it directly attacks the Badals. The song accuses the Badals of selling sand, roads, canal and fields. It also accuses the Punjab government of trading heroin. “Sukhbir bana dukhbir jadon Prakash karne laga andhera (Sukhbir inflicted pain when Prakash spread darkness),” says the song. The song also talks about greedy police, farmer suicides, sacrilege and drug addiction and advises listeners to take up brooms to clean the state.
The song got as the thumbs-up from AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, who has described it as a “must watch”.
However, the Akalis have not been so amused by the song as they have threatened to sue Mr Vishwas if the word jat is not removed from it.
“The AAP has released this song for political gains. The song sung by Kumar Vishwas has maligned the image of jats who have been shown as drug addicts. We will not tolerate this. If he does not delete this word from the song, we will be forced to sue him. We are consulting lawyers to send him a legal notice,” Akali Dal leader Santa Singh Umaidpuri said.
AAP leaders said the song is part of an anti-drug campaign which the party will launch in the state soon. “The song tells the truth about Punjab and the Shiromani Akali Dal. They are unnecessarily raising the issue of jat community as we are not targeting anybody,” AAP Punjab convenor Sucha Singh Chotepur said.
He said that Mr Vishwas will tour the state and raise the issue. “The reality is that Punjab has highest number of heroin users and people are spending thousands of crores on buying Pakistani drugs,” he said.
