LDF against women in Sabarimala temple

The LDF government in Kerala on Monday adopted the UDF government’s stand in the Supreme Court to back the restriction on entry of women between the ages of 10 and 50 to the Sabarimala Ayyappan temple

The LDF government in Kerala on Monday adopted the UDF government’s stand in the Supreme Court to back the restriction on entry of women between the ages of 10 and 50 to the Sabarimala Ayyappan temple and said this restriction has prevailed from time immemorial.

A batch of petitions filed in 2006 by Indian Young Lawyers’ Association and others relating to the ban was posted on Monday before a new combination of judges comprising Justices Dipak Misra, C. Nagappan and R. Banumathi.

Senior counsel V. Giri, appearing for Kerala, told the bench that as of now there was no change in stand.

“We will hear all concerned and if need be we will pass an order to refer the case to a larger bench,” the bench said and posted the matter for further hearing on November 7.
