Major reshuffle underway in Assam police
Bogged down by the growing law and order problem and increasing insurgent activities, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday began a major reshuffle in the state police force, starting with the removal of two additional directors general of police (law and order).
Additional director general of police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia, the 1985 batch IPS officer, is now posted as special DGP law and order in place of R.M. Singh. Additional director general of police (law and order), S.N. Singh, is also shunted out.
Guwahati commissioner of police Mukesh Agarwal, an IPS officer of the 1989 batch, is posted as the new additional director general of police of law and order, while inspector general of police (IGP) Hiren Nath, the 1996 batch IPS officer, is posted as the new Guwahati CP.
S.N. Singh who was looking after the law and order of the state is now posted as the special DGP, border. The 1986 batch IPS officer, Anil Kumar Jha, is posted as the ADGP, Criminal Investigation Department.
In a first ever shake up in the police establishment after the formation of the BJP government in Assam; a large number of superintendents police are transferred.
The SPs of Golghat, Sonitpur, Sibsagar, Nagaon, and Kamrup (Rural) are also transferred in addition to many additional SPs of various districts.
