MLC’s son gets bail, Bihar to move Supreme Court

The Bihar government on Thursday decided to move the Supreme Court against the Patna high court order granting bail to Rakesh Ranjan Yadav, alias Rocky Yadav, in the Gaya road rage case even as the family members of slain Aditya Sachdeva expressed displeasure over the judgment.

Rocky Yadav, son of suspended JD(U) MLC Manorama Devi and a history-sheeter Bindi Yadav who has close connection with RJD chief Lalu Yadav, is accused of shooting dead Aditya Sachdeva, a a teenaged higher secondary student, for overtaking his car on May 7 this year.

Patna high court Chief Justice Iqbal A. Ansari had granted bail to Rocky on Wednesday. Senior lawyer Y.V. Giri, while representing the accused in the Patna high court, had said on Wednesday that there was no evidence against his client who has been charged with murdering Aditya.

Speaking on the issue, senior JD(U) leader and party spokesperson Niraj Kumar assured Aditya’s family members of full support and said, “Rocky got bail through judicial legal process, but the state government will leave no stone unturned in fighting for justice.”

Family members of the victim urged chief minister Nitish Kumar to “save Bihar from criminals and jungle raj”.

“This is a tragic day for us; Nitish Kumar had assured that Aditya will get justice, but this is what we have got in five months,” Aditya’s father said on Thursday.

The police arrested Rocky from his father’s mixer plant in Gaya on May 10. Monorama Devi and Bindi Yadav, accused of sheltering Rocky while he was on the run after the murder, were later released on bail.

Rocky Yadav is the son of suspended JD (U) MLC Manorama Devi and a history sheeter Bindi Yadav who has close connection with RJD Chief Lalu Yadav. Bindi Yadav who had unsuccessfully contested two assembly elections from Garua constituency as an independent had managed a legislative council seat for his wife Manorama Devi from ruling Party JD (U) after he was denied membership from the RJD. The JD (U) later suspended Manorama Devi after the incident occurred in May this year.
