NIA likely to issue Interpol notice against top Ulfa man
In what is said to be an attempt to issue an Interpol search notice, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has sent a notice to outlawed Ulfa chairman Abhijit Asom, alias Mukul Hazarika, on his ancestral house at Samaguri in central Assam asking him to appear before it for questioning in connection with a case registered against the outfit.
The agency has directed the elusive Ulfa chairman to appear before its office in Guwahati within 14 days. The notice was issued on September 7.
The NIA in its notice, which was delivered to his home, has asked the Ulfa chairman to appear in its office in Guwahati in connection with a case of 2013.
Informing that notice is the part of an official formality, sources said that failure of the Ulfa chairman in complying with the notice would prepare the further ground for the agency to issue an Interpol red corner notice.
Pointing out that Interpol notice would help in restricting the movement of the Ulfa chairman, security sources said that Abhijit Asom is a 68-year-old doctor who lives in the UK and his real name is Dr Mukul Hazarika. Sources indicatied that security agencies have been following movements of the Ulfa chairman abroad.
