No poll tie-ups in UP: Left

The Left parties will not join any grand alliance in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Assembly polls.

The Left parties will not join any grand alliance in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Assembly polls. CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury made it clear on Wednesday that the Left front would not be a part of any alliance and would contest around 200 seats in the state.

“The political parties trying to forge an alliance terming themselves a grand alliance are totally confused as they do not have any agenda before them. Besides, inner bickering in some parties have forced them to go for an alliance just to win seats,” he told reporters. Mr Yechury made it clear the Left front would not join any alliance just for the sake of opposing the communal forces.

“We would like to know the agenda of the alliance and what they want to do for the people after being elected,” he said.

Mr Yechuri said that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar had rightly said that in UP, a grand alliance is possible only if SP and BSP comes together, which is not at all possible in near future.

“Moreover, no one from the secular parties have approached the Left parties for an alliance in UP nor we are interested. We are ready to contest 200 seats in UP,” he said.

Mr Yechuri added the Left front is serious on contesting the elections in UP and all leaders of six parties have joined hands for this. “We are planning a strategy so that senior Left leaders can campaign in a big way in UP. This time, we will not leave everything to the state units,” he added.
