Sharad Yadav, Arun Jaitley exchange barbs over note ban

The JD-U leader said it is unprecedented that there is no obituary reference for the seven Armymen.

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha witnessed exchange of barbs between the leader of House Arun Jaitley and JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav on Wednesday as they hit out at each other over the demonetisation issue.

The exchange happened when members of the Congress, TMC, BSP and SP were creating a ruckus over their demand that the House mourn the killing of 25 armymen since the surgical strikes, and the deaths of 82 people in post-demonetisation hardships.

The JD-U leader said it is unprecedented that there is no obituary reference for the seven Armymen, including two senior officers, killed in the terrorist attack at Nagrota near Jammu on Tuesday.

As he also raised the death of “nearly 90 people” in the post-demonetisation hardships, Mr Jaitley retorted that he should first discuss the demonetisation in his party and find “if it is agreeable” with the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes or not. His remark was reference to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar supporting the demonetisation.
