BJP, Trinamul legislators engage in verbal duel in LS

MPs of TMC, which is in power in the state, were on their feet, shouting at Ghosh as he carried on with his speech targeting the TMC dispensation.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) lawmakers indulged in verbal sparring in Lok Sabha during Zero Hour after Dilip Ghosh, a saffron party MP, alleged a conspiracy by the West Bengal government in violent attack and criminal cases against his party members.

Earlier another BJP MP from Hooghly, Locket Chatterji raised the hackles of TMC MPs when she alleged that the ‘cut money’ scam was prevalent everywhere in West Bengal and now TMC workers are being ordered to return it, which has led to a lot of protests from its cadre.

The state government by ordering return of this kind of money, has proven the allegations that cut money was indeed being charged from common public, she charged.

This led to a furore in the lower house as TMC MPs could be seen protesting from their seats and indulging in verbal duels with BJP MPs.

Later Mr Ghosh said BJP MPs, including Union minister Babul Supriyo, Arjun Singh and himself, were attacked during the recent Lok Sabha polls.

Over 150 BJP workers have been injured and many others have been framed in narcotics cases, he alleged, accusing the state police of conspiracy at the government’s behest.

MPs of TMC, which is in power in the state, were on their feet, shouting at Ghosh as he carried on with his speech targeting the TMC dispensation. BJP MPs were seen raising their voices in support of Mr Ghosh. At this moment the Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House for lunch.
