'Your karma awaits you': Rahul Gandhi to PM Modi on his father's remark
Lucknow: Launching a blistering attack on Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the life of his father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi ended as ''corrupt number 1''.
In an apparent reference to Bofors case, Modi while addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh said, "Your father was termed 'Mr Clean' by his courtiers, but his life ended as Bhrashtachari No 1 (corrupt number 1)''.
The alleged Bofors scam led to the collapse of the Rajiv Gandhi-led government in the 1980s.
PM Modi, who is eyeing to form an NDA 2, not only questioned the motive of the coalition government but also attacked the dynastic politics of Congress.
"By tarnishing my image and by making me look small, these people want to form an unstable and a weak government in the country," he said.
"The naamdaar (dynast) must clearly listen that this Modi was not born with a golden spoon, nor was he born in any royal family," he said.
During the rally in Basti, he also attacked the SP and BSP over alleged corruption while apparently referring to the NRHM "scam", illegal sand mining mafia and allegations that some interior fittings were missing when SP chief Akhilesh Yadav vacated his government bungalow on the Supreme Court's direction.
"During the BSP regime, neither ambulances were safe nor Taj Mahal was safe. During SP's tenure, sand, and even household taps were not spared," he said.
"The naamdaar (dynast) must clearly listen that this Modi was not born with a golden spoon, nor was he born in any royal family," he said.
