Shivpal Yadav under lens in riverfront probe
New Delhi: The role of former Uttar Pradesh irrigation and water resources minister Shivpal Singh Yadav is now under the scanner of the CBI as the agency has started its investigation for the alleged irregularities committed in the Rs 1,500 crore Gomti river front development project in Lucknow.
Sources said the former minister and senior SP leader had reportedly visited Japan and studied the river front development, developed in Tokyo and Osaka cities, and also gathered details about other river fronts developed in other countries of the world. “There are allegations that the former minister had directed the Irrigation and water resources department to rejuvenate the Gomti river, the lifeline of Lucknow, and to develop a world-class river front on its banks. The development of Gomti river works was assigned to the irrigation and water resources department of the state government,” sources said. Seeking clarification from the former minister can not be ruled out, they added.
The CBI recently took over the investigation into alleged irregularities in the Gomti river front development project by registering an FIR against eight engineers.
