Priyanka Gandhi targets govt over slowdown
New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday hit out at the Central government over the ‘economic crisis’ in the country. Taking to Twitter, she said that the slowdown was for everyone to see and asked till when the government would “run by managing headlines”.
“Telling a lie a hundred times does not turn it into the truth. The BJP government should accept that there is a historic slowdown in the economy and they shou-ld move towards taking measures to resolve it,” she said in a tweet.
The Congress has already demanded a white paper on the prevailing economic situation in the country. The party further added that the BJP was showcasing anti-national behaviour by refusing to address the ‘deepening, worsening’ economy crisis of the country. The BJP government is busy attacking the Opposition rather than curing the economy, it said. Congress also critiqued the surplus transfer from the RBI to the government.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday said the state of the economy was “deeply worrying” and urged the government to put aside “vendetta politics” and reach out to sane voices and thinking minds to steer the economy out of this “man-made crisis”.
The Congress leader said “all-round mismanagement” by the Modi government was responsible for the slowdown.
