BJP campaign to start today
New Delhi: Ahead of the crucial Assembly polls in Gujarat, the enthused saffron cadre in BJP ruled state will embark on a week-long ‘Gujarat Gaurav Mahasampark Abhiyan’ from Tuesday, knocking door-to-door to highlight the state’s and central government’s achievements.
The campaign will be headed by BJP president Amit Shah. The party’s leaders will be passing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal message to people.
The two-phased Assembly polls in the state is scheduled on December 9 and 14 for the 182 assembly seats. Following this, the results will be declared on December 18.
For the BJP, which is confident of retaining power, these elections are crucial as they are taking place first time after both Mr Modi and Mr Shah’s elevation to the national political scenario. Most of the opinion polls have favoured the BJP.
Mr Shah will kick off the mahasampark abhiyan from his former constituency Naranpura in Ahmedabad on Tuesday and is expected to reach out to 1,000 people daily. Under BJP’s rule for more than two decades, Gujarat is witnessing a high decibel campaign, with opposition Congress highlighting ruling party’s failures.
It is also questioning the Gujarat model of development and the BJP leadership, including Mr Modi, promoting ‘Hun chu vikas, hun chu Gujarat(I am development, I am Gujarat)’. Through the mahasampark abhiyan, which will also be attended by senior leaders from state and central team, including Union ministers, the BJP will try to cover more than 15,000 booths, spread across 182 assembly constituencies.
Central ministers, who will participate in the campaign include Piyush Goyal, who is likely to attend on November 8), Smriti Irani on November 9, Nirmala Sitharaman on November 11, Prakash Javadekar on November 12 and J.P. Nadda on November 13. Other Union ministers, who are likely to participate in the campaign include Narendra Singh Tomar, Jitendra Singh, among others.
