Giriraj Singh booked over land grab in Patna

Prasad had filed a petition in the special ST/SC court which directed the police to register FIR against the minister and others.

Patna: Union minister Giriraj Singh, along with 32 others, has been booked for allegedly grabbing a prime piece of land in Danapur area of Patna.

BJP leader Giriraj Singh and others are accused of grabbing land from Ram Narayan Prasad, a resident of Asopur in Danapur. Mr Prasad had filed a petition in the special ST/SC court which directed the police to register FIR against the minister and others.

The complainant, Ram Narayan Prasad, alleged that the accused grabbed a land of two acres and fifty-six decimal which was gifted to him by his maternal uncle. Prasad also said that accused abused and threatened him when he protested.

Sources claimed that all the accused, including senior BJP leader and Union minister Giriraj Singh, have been booked under provisions of the IPC and the SC/ST act.

The issue has snowballed into a major political controversy with the opposition demanding the resignation of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and replies on the issue from the Prime Minister.

Former Deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, who is preparing to launch a statewide ‘Nyay Yatra’ against Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, attacked the NDA over the allegations against Giriraj Singh. He said, “What will the chief minister do now, will he break the alliance with the BJP and resign from the post of chief minister as he keeps talking about zero tolerance on issues like these.”

The Opposition parties in Bihar also pointed out that Nitish Kumar had snapped ties with the grand secular alliance in July last year on grounds that his conscience didn’t allow him to remain with RJD after a string of corruption cases were registered against Lalu Yadav and his family.
