BJP slams Lalu Prasad Yadav, JD(U); Congress silent

The alliance partner of the RJD has, however, maintained silence over the issue.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court verdict allowing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to reinstate criminal conspiracy charges against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has evoked sharp political reactions. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said: “We have been saying for long that Lalu Yadav is involved in corrupt practices. Several media reports regarding his connections with the jailed mafia don Shahabuddin, and other corruption allegations against him have been heard. I hope Nitish ji will also responds to these allegations.”

The alliance partner of the RJD has, however, maintained silence over the issue. When contacted, the JD(U) leaders told this newspaper that they did not want to comment. For the past couple of days, several allegations have been levelled against the RJD leader, though the JD (U) has decided to remain silent. The Congress party stated it will make a statement after carefully perusing the judgment.

However, coming out in Mr Yadav’s support, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said: “The CBI has often been used as a tool against political opponents. But in the end, we are sure that truth will come out in the open.”
