New Delhi: The Centre has banned a pro-Khalistani outfit called the Sikhs for Justice for being involved in the anti-national activities. The organisation has been banned under the provisions of the Unla-wful Activities Prevent-ion Act (UAPA). Any organisation which is found to be involved in anti-national activities is brought under the UAPA to ensure is completely banned for carrying out any kind of activities in the country.

Sources claimed investigation conducted by the Punjab Police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in some of the recent killings in Punjab, some of which were linked to some religious groups, revealed that SFJ had a role in it.

Following this the security agencies had been closely monitoring activities of US-based group and it was decided to ban it under the UAPA.

Earlier the organisation had called for the Sikh Referendum 2020 as part of its separatist agenda. The decision to bring SFJ under provisions of the UAPA was cleared by the Union cabinet on Wednesday. The group openly espouses the cause of Khalistan and in that process challenges the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.

Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh hailed the decision to ban pro-Khalistan group The Sikhs for Justice and said it deserved to be treated as a “terrorist “organisation”.
