Will make Mumbai corruption and mafia free: Somaiya
Mumbai: With BJP and Shiv Sena leaders meeting on Tuesday for the first round of seat-sharing talks for upcoming BMC polls, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya on Sunday said his party was committed to make Mumbai city "mafia and corruption free."
Somaiya, who has been critical of some infrastructure works undertaken by Shiv Sena-controlled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), said, "The current need of the city is to get rid of mafia and make it corruption free and BJP will achieve it."
Somaiya has been for quite some time now using the term "mafia" indicating alleged nexus of certain BMC contractors with Shiv Sena.
"In 2014 Assembly elections, there were more than 50 per cent wards in BMC, where BJP candidate received maximum votes. BJP has got good base there," he said.
