Modi doesn't need to form govt in UP to waive off farmers' loans: Rahul

The congress vice-president lashed out at Modi saying that he has to focus on the plight of the poor instead of talking his mann ki baat.'

Sitapur: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday continued his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that his promise of farm loan waiver is one of his many "false promises".

Speaking at an election rally in Leharpur Assembly constituency, Rahul said, "Modi ji makes false promises, and the loan waiver for farmers in these elections will be another of the same kind."

"Prime Minister Modi doesn't need to form the government in Uttar Pradesh to waive off the loans of farmers. He can easily do that as he is the Prime Minister," he added.

The Congress vice-president also said “the Prime Minister should look into the problems he has imposed on the poor through his note-ban decision, instead of speaking about his 'mann ki baat”, referring to Modi’s monthly radio address.

Hitting out at the Prime Minister's 'Make in India' campaign, Rahul said, "Even the phones we are using are Chinese (made) and Indian money is going there. We want Indian products to be sold in China."

He also alleged that no employment has been generated, saying that Rs 15 lakh was not deposited in accounts of the poor and instead their government waived Rs 1.40 lakh crore of debts only to benefit 50 industrial houses. The amount could have been used for the betterment of farmers and small industries, he said.

On the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance, he said it would turn Uttar Pradesh into "Uttam Pradesh" if voted to power.

"Free coaching to students will be given in every district of UP," he said.
