Prabhat Jha: Scindia wants to put public buildings on rent
New Delhi: In a letter to Union culture ministry, BJP MP Prabhat Jha on Wednesday said that the ministry should take note of some of the ‘heritage’ buildings in Gwalior, which the scion of the erstwhile royal family and MP Jyotiraditya Scindia wants to put on rent.
Mr Jha said that though these buildings were earlier with the Scindia family, post-Independence, they have become public property.
The Rajya Sabha MP, in his letter to Union minister Mahesh Sharma, has said that some of these buildings were government offices for many years post-Independence.
Mr Prabhat Jha said that these buildings have great cultural and heritage value and therefore, the culture ministry should get them evaluated and then should be put under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) protection or should be used for ‘Gwalior’s interest.’
The Bharatiya Janata Party MP said these buildings are no more private property anymore and have great heritage value.
“India has lokshahi(democracy) and not rajshahi(regency)...in democracy, these are not private properties but public properties,” the BJP MP has written in the letter and also mentioned names of some of the buildings, which he said will be put on rent by the Scindia family, who used to own them before Independence.
