Lalu Prasad Yadav announces protest against demonetisation
Patna: RJD chief Lalu Yadav launched a fresh offensive against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and said the decision to demonetise high- value currency notes has “affected only poor people and labourers, and that the situation is worse in rural areas”.
Mr Yadav, who had earlier toned down his anti-demonetisation rhetoric after Nitish Kumar intervened, held a meeting of his party functionaries to discuss strategies to “wage war against the move” on Saturday.
“We have decided to launch our protest against the demonetisation on December 28,” said Mr Yadav, adding, “The demonetisation will meet the same fate as Congress’ forced sterilisation drive launched during the Emergency.”
Hoping to get support from other Opposition parties, he said, “I will individually invite all big Opposition party leaders to join us in our fight against the Central government’s move.”
