Shatrughan Sinha to contest election from Cong: Senior party leader
New Delhi: BJP rebel Shatrughan Sinha may contest upcoming Lok Sabha election from Patna Sahib seat on Congress ticket.
A senior Congress leader from Bihar on Wednesday said, "it is also almost final that actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha will be fielded from his Patna Sahib seat on our ticket. His resignation from the BJP and induction into the Congress will take place in a few days," PTI reported.
According to sources, BJP MP Shatrughan who has been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, won't get a slot in BJP's list of candidates, forcing him to join another party.
At various occasions Sinha has hinted at leaving the BJP.
He said, "Everything about my future course will be known soon, like where will I contest and on which symbol."
In the past, Shatrughan Sinha has made it clear that he will contest from his constituency irrespective of the situation.
However, recently he was dropped by BJP and his seat was given to Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Shatrughan is a popular leader in Patna. He has been elected to power twice (2009 and 2014) from the Patna Sahib constituency.
BJP's in-house critic Shatrughan was also present in the mega opposition rally organized by Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata in January 2019.
He said, "During Atal Bihari Vajpayee's time, the focus was lokshahi (democracy) but now in PM Modi's time it is tanashahi (dictatorship)."
Interestingly, despite his sharp and overt comments against his own party, BJP has not taken any disciplinary action or sacked him.
The state will go on election in 6 phases starting from April 11.
