Pawar says his daughter got more votes than PM

Mumbai: NCP founder Sharad Pawar on Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating his daughter Supriya Sule received more votes than the PM in the Lok Sabha election. Mr. Pawar said that Narendra Modi has lost credibility among the people and nobody believes “Modi’s guarantee”.

The 83-year-old veteran Maratha politician is on a three-day tour of drought-affected villages in Baramati, which had witnessed a battle between Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.

Addressing a public rally in Baramati, the NCP founder said that Supriya Sule was elected by the margin of more than 1.58 lakh votes from the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, while Prime Minister of the country was elected by 1.50 Lakh votes in Varanasi. “It means that the people have given more votes to Supriya Sule than the Prime Minister,” he said.

It may be recalled that in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election, Mr. Modi had defeated Congress Ajay Rai by a margin of 1,52,513 in Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, while Supriya Sule had defeated NDA candidate Sunetra Pawar by 1,58,333 votes in Baramati Lok Sabha constituency.

Mr. Pawar said that the youth of Baramati has always helped him. Ms Sule won from Baramati for the fourth time. “Baramatikars (the people of Baramati) have elected Supriya Sule by a huge margin. The people need to not to be told which button (on EVM) they needed to press,” Mr. Pawar said.

Referring to BJP’s slogan “Modi ki guarantee”, Mr Pawar said, “I feel that the people have lost their faith in the BJP and the Modi government. Mr. Modi has been repeatedly speaking about Modi’s guarantee. The people did not trust his guarantee in this election.”
