Leaders pay tribute to Govardhan Reddy
New Delhi: Leaders cutting across party lines reached 20, Gurdwara Rakabganj Road residence of Rajya Sabha member Palvai Govardhan Reddy, who passed away on June 9, to pay their tribute on Wednesday. Leaders, friends, family members and followers of late Govardhan Reddy also reached his residence to pay their tribute.
NDA vice-president candidate M. Venkaiah Naidu, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Rajya Sabha member T. Subhi Rami Reddy, Amar Singh, former minister Sharad Pawar and A.K. Antony, Congress leader Digvijay Singh, Anil Shastri, Janardan Dwivedi are some of the prominent names who paid floral tribute to the former MP. All the leaders offered their condolences to the family members after paying floral tributes and also wrote it on the visitor book. Mr Naidu and former Prime Minister Mr Singh sat for some time and heard “bhajans” and devotional songs recited by the artistes. Mr Dattatreya was one of the last person to leave the venue.
On a large screen, the life journey of Govardhan Reddy was shown through a picture from his college days with former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and his social works. An audio-visual presentation, titled “Journey of eight decades”, was also shown to the guests.
Bhajan and devotional songs were continuously recited by artiste Dayanand Parihast. He sang devotional songs of Meerabai, Kabir, Tulsidas, Raskhan and others.
Reddy was born on Novermber 20, 1936. He represented Munugodu constituency and was a member of Andhra Pradesh legislative council from 2007 to 2009. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2012.
