Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joins BJP, likely to fight Lok Sabha polls

After joining BJP, Gambhir said, 'I am joining this party(BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi's vision.'

New Delhi: Former Cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Friday joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He joined the party in the presence of Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad.

After joining BJP, Gambhir said, “I am joining this party(BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi's vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform.”

BJP sources said Gambhir may be fielded from the New Delhi constituency, currently represented by the party's Meenakshi Lekhi. A final decision is yet to be taken though, they added.

Gambhir was conferred with India’s fourth highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri award, earlier this year and received a congratulatory letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
