Congress questions Keshav Maurya's degrees

Haseeb Ahmed has filed a complaint with the Election Commission and endorsed copy of the same to the Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Lucknow: After Union minister Smriti Irani, it is now UP BJP president Keshav Maurya whose educational qualifications have kicked up a controversy.

Haseeb Ahmad, a Congress leader from Allahabad, has accused Mr Maurya of presenting fake educational details to the Election Commission during the previous elections.

Mr Ahmed has filed a complaint with the Election Commission and endorsed copy of the same to the Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Talking to reporters on Monday, the Congress leader said that Mr Maurya contested elections from Allahabad West Vidhan Sabha seat in the year 2007.

His educational qualification mentioned in the affidavit submitted with the EC during the 2007 UP elections showed that he had completed his Intermediate in 1986, graduation in 1988 and post-graduate in the year 1998.

However, when Mr Maurya contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he mentioned in the affidavit that he had completed his BA in the year 1997.

The Congress has now pointed fingers over his degrees demanding to know that how Mr Maurya completed his post-graduation in 1998 when he completed his graduation just a year ahead in 1997.

Mr Ahmad said that in this case, one of the affidavits submitted by Mr Maurya during the 2007 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections was false and needed to be probed.
