Patna: A clash broke out between supporters of Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Rajya Sabha MP R.K. Sinha at the Patna airport on Tuesday.

This was Mr Prasad’s first visit to Patna after he was declared BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Patna Sahib.

Sources said that supporters of another senior BJP leader R.K. Sinha tried to create a ruckus and showed black flags to Mr Prasad as soon as he came out of the airport.

BJP insiders said that supporters of Mr Sinha were upset after party declared Mr Prasad as their candidate for the Patna Sahib constituency. Sources claim that Mr Sinha was the first choice for Patna Sahib Seat after BJP decided to replace rebel party leader Shatrughan Sinha.

“I want to thank my party for this responsibility. I was born and brought up in Patna. I believe that my party’s commitment to nationalism and good governance will help Narendra Modi return as Prime Minister,” Union minister Mr Prasad said.

BJP insiders claim that several rounds of discussions were held before NDA partners announced the list for 39 of the 40 candidates in Bihar and the name of Rajya Sabha MP R.K. Sinha was also discussed for the Patna Sahib seat.

Political analysts are of the opinion that RK Sinha has a major stake in the Kayastha community. The caste has around 25 per cent voter base in Patna Sahib. Sources claim that R.K. Sinha is also popular among the local masses here because he began his political career in Patna.
