Will oust Modi from politics, says Mamata Banerjee

Mamata vows to protest outside PM's house to demand note ban rollback.

Kolkata: Intensifying her attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday vowed to not only remove him from power but oust him from politics. “ Today, I am taking pledge that whether I die or live, but will remove PM Modi from Indian politics. Dictators like (him) have no place in Indian politics,” Ms Banerjee thundered. She was addressing a gathering at the culmination of a Trinamul Congress protest rally which began at College Square and ended at Esplanade. She also threatened to organise a protest demonstration outside the Prime Minister’s residence if he does not roll back the demonetisation decision.

The huge rally witnessed the presence of a large number of celebrities from the world of films, culture and sports. Enthused by their presence Ms Banerjee herself raised slogans like “Modi sarkar hai hai” and “Tanashahi nahi chalegi” (Dictatorship won’t work).

Ms Banerjee had earlier addressed several rallies in Delhi including one at Jantar Mantar protesting Mr Modi’s decision to ban Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes. She took her complaint against what she described as Mr Modi’s “dictatorial” decision to President Pranab Mukherjee. Her party MPs have vociferously raised the issue in Parliament. Ms Banerjee is using demonetisation to unite opposition against the ruling BJP.

Today the Trinamul Congress supremo led her first rally on the city streets against demonetisation.

In a bid drive home the message that her threat of unseating the Prime Minister should not be taken lightly, Ms Banerjee said that she had vowed to return the land from the defunct Nano plant to the unwilling farmers of Singur and she kept her promise.
