Congress president to embark on Kailash Yatra

Gandhi has sent a special request for clearance to the ministry of external affairs.

New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi is all set to embark on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra on August 31st.

During the Karnataka elections in May 2018, Mr. Gandhi had said he decided to visit Kailash Mansarovar when his plane plummeted thousands of feet and he was reminded of Lord Shiva. He had previously called himself a janeudhari (sacred thread wearing) Brahmin and a devotee of Lord Shiva during the Gujarat elections.

Mr. Gandhi has sent a special request for clearance to the ministry of external affairs. He will be taking a private route for the Yatra from China sources in the party added. The promised pilgrimage could not take place until now because of the Congress chief’s packed schedule, said leaders. Last week, he visited Germany and London.

After returning from Kailash-Mansarovar, he is expected to head to Madhya Pradesh to launch the Congress campaign for polls in the state due later this
year.
